Sir,
Yours of the 13 inst rec'd. And at the request and information on Oath of Edward Maultesby Col'd. I issued for the arrest of one Lewis Allen charged with assault & battery upon said Ed.
I presume from the tone of yours that I have been miss represented to you in this matter. 
I think it needless for me to offer an explanation as a long course of public service has familiarized me with the usual course in these cases. I suppose he told you that I refused him a warrant - I gave him instructions how to proceed with which seemed perfectually satisfied, but others who are always after mischief were not so. Therefore the application to you. Ed, was drunk and from what I learn to day was the aggressor.
