Personally appeared before me William M Baldwin One of the acting Justices of the Peace in and for Columbus County. Hannah Owen freedwoman and after being duly sworn on the Holy Evangelists of Almighty God deposeth as follows. viz

I was employed by Mr. Plummer to cook and do housework. And that on the last day of February last while at Mr. Plummers sitting in the house with my back to Mr. P. and he sitting in the door telling me what to do in his absence (which would take place the following week) he at this time had a pistol in his hand had fired it off once. And seemed to be engaged in firing the pistol it went off. And I was struck with the ball discharged from the pistol which made a painfull  wound. I do swear and say that I did not at that time, nor at the present, think that Mr. Plummer intended to do me any harm I can't think that he would have done me the least injury in any way.

Mr. Plummer left home the next day after the accident, and as Mrs. Plummer was absent from home at the time I did not fare as well as I wished. Mr. Plummer left Ayle Owen to attend to me during his absence on official business and instructed Ayle to attend to me and he would pay her for her trouble. I have been provided for well since her return and I think it was his wish that I should be well attended to during his
