who had been summoned as a witness said he would be damned if he gave evidence before me and assigned as a reason that I was friendly to Williamson & that all white folk would stick together in every case of law, I explained everything I could to them I [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] beged [[begged]] them to come to trial but they would not, So finally I had to dispose of the case in some way I heard the states witnesses & found them all guilty [[strikethrough]] [[/strikethrough]] then I told them I would take Bright Williamson and Dallas Brown the husband of Dilsy & her Father for security for their appearance to October Term of the Court & they told me they would not give security I told them I would have to send them to Jail they said all right they would go & old Dallas Brown their Father said put them in Jail he show me how quick he could have them taken out that he would go to Wilmington & have the old Jail opened quick Anson Williamson was commited [[committed]] to Jail for contempt to court for cursing and swearing he would not give evidence before me

So under all the circumstances I commited [[committed]] all hands to Jail believing honestly I done right & would have done the same if they had been as white as snow under the same circumstances
