NARA 70

THE AMERICAN MISSIONARY ASSOCIATION, (CENTRAL OFFICE, 53 JOHN STREET, NEW YORK,) has been working twenty years for the African race. Since the beginning of the Rebellion it has turned special attention to the Freedmen. Whatever a wise Christian benevolence prompts in their behalf, by way of Common Schools, Normal Schools, Orphan Homes, Relief of the suffering, and direct religious effort, the Association undertakes, to the full extent of the means furnished by the friends of the colored people.

Gen
After 14 days confinement to my bed I am up. I am personally indebted to you, as well as our association, for many favors.
Will you allow me to ask one more. I have now had my transportation for self & family to Atlanta nearly a month.
I get no return for expenditures on the Williston School building. If I go on without a settlement it would involve the necessity of a return, here and to Beaufort.
Can you do anything for me.

Truly Yours
H S Beals.
