Sir
I have the honor to report that I have investigated the case of the girl Lucy Nixon & find that the Statements are only true as they would be true of hundreds of other freedmen who are poor & vicious. She might be better with her mother. It is hardly likely at her age (17 or 18 years) that she would want for opportunities of practicing the same vices she is charged with by Dr Johnson. She stoutly affirms that she was beaten almost dayly at the house of that Dr & that it formed the bulk of the education of which the Dr makes such special mention. Lucy seems not to care to go to her mother of whom she knows little, but would seem to prefer to go to her aunt at Gainesville Fla.
Very Respectfully
Your Obedt Servant
