Whitesville Columbus County - N.C.
Sept the 3rd 1868

General
I have the honor to inform you that unless some kind of relief is afforded me I will necessarily be compelled to quit teaching school here. And leave the county. The people are impovished and cannot afford to give me enough to eat And my family is in an almost suffering condition. I have schollars and there is a large field here. I think that if you could see my school you would say it is a pity to break it up. I refer you to Mr Geo. M. Arnold your clerk who visited this place on Monday last.
If you can do anything for me and the people here. We respectfully call on you to do so. Answer soon.
Your obt servt
F. C. Sadgwar
