Office Bu. R.F & A L Lumberton N.C. Feby. 17th 1868 Capt. Allan Rutherford, U.S.A Capt James Blount expresses himself perfectly willing to relinquish all claim upon the two children, and return them to the care and control of their Father Sam. Council, who is well able to take care of them and see to their education. The general appearance of the children indicates very clearly that they receive about as much care and attention as when they were slaves. Council is a sober & industrious man. In my opinion, it is to the interest of the Children, to cancel their Indenture and place them under the guardianship of their Father. I am Capt. Very Respectfully Alfred Thomas, Agt &c.
