Dear Zarina

It was an enormous pleasure to visit you at home the other week. Thank you for your generous hospitality, the delicious tea - and the utterly thrilling experience of seeing a great deal of your work in the flesh.

I apologize for the tardiness of this note, which in part reflects the over-extended nature of my days as we approach the holidays, but also because I wanted to get find a particular book to accompany my note. This I now send to you as a token of my thanks and sincere appreciation for one of the nicest afternoons I've had since arriving in New York.

I'm aware that the opening date of your Guggenheim exhibition is looming and you must be exceedingly bust. But I just wanted to let you know that I shall be meeting with Navina and a few colleagues on 9th January to discuss the possibility of acquiring some of your work for the Met's collection. Accordingly, I shall be discussing the following works with them:

House with Four Walls 1991
Home is a Foreign Place 1999
Santa Cruz 1996
A knot piece from late 70s / early 80s (of which we saw a couple of examples in your studio)

I hope that my colleagues and I will come to agreement on this soon afterwards, at which time I shall be in touch again.

Meanwhile, please let me say that it was a delight to meet you and thank you again for spending so much precious time showing us your beautiful work,

With my good wishes for the holidays - and the wonderful promise of a new year to come

Sheena
