ZARINA HASHMI

Born in Aligarh, India, Zarina Hashmi worked in printmaking with Hayter at Atelier 17 in Paris in the 1960's. She has participated in many one-woman and group shows in the US, in India and in Europe, where her prints and sculptures are in the collections of some major museums. She currently lives in California, teaching printmaking at Santa Cruz.

Zarina makes her sculptures in cast bronze, painted aluminum or from molded paper pulp. These sculptures, as relief work or wall pieces, are small in scale but looking at them is like reading poetry...Urdu poetry... with nostalgia and romance. The titles of her work often reflect this: "Homes I Made," or "Houses With Four Walls."
