For the love of the artist

When would you call an art exhibition 'worth talking about'? When there are lots of celebs jostling for attention along with the paintings being displayed? Or when the artist is loved by his or her fraternity, and therefore everyone thinks it's a not-to-miss event? Well, you decide that for yourselves. Meanwhile, here's why most of the guests had come to see Zarina Hashmi's recent works of art.. "She's a very senior artist. I'm a great admirer of her work myself," said artist Samit Das. We asked a few others, and they too said the same thing.

All the works were made of paper, or cast from paper pulp. "This is what I have been doing over the last 20 years," said Zarina, presently based in New York. The gathering saw the likes of Vir Munshi, Shobha Broota, Kamath, Subrata Kundu, Manu Parekh and Shamshad Husain... a nice sprinking of senior and upcoming artists, "It's me who showed her first collection many years back. And I must tell you that she's quite a dynamite," Shammi Mehendi Ratta was heard telling another guest rather proudly, as his wife, Marivel nodded in agreement. "Zarina has graduated from a print maker to three-dimensional work today," he added.

One also spotted fashion designer Rohit Gandhi who was quite engrossed with the works on display. Till late in the evening, guests kept sauntering in and congratulating the artist.
