Says Morale in China is Not Problem

Girl Flier Here to Promote War Aid for Countrymen

By CATHERINE QUEALY
Star Journal Staff Writer

With 50,000,000 refugees, almost half the population of this country, with sadly inadequate supplies and the prospects of a long war, the morale in China is still such that it isn't to be mentioned among the county's problems.

That is what Lee Ya Ching, youthful, glamorous Chinese flier who has flown over two continent promoting aviation and aiding her country , said in Minneapolis today.

"This country is heaven," Miss Lee said. "You don't know what deprivation is. The Chinese are content if they have a little rice each day to allay their hunger.

"WE'RE DESPERATELY IN NEED OF WAR MATERIALS AND MEDICAL SUPPLIES," she said. "Doctors-and they are scarce-have to perform operations without anesthetics. Means of access to the country have been cut off to some extent, but we'll still be able to smuggle in anything we can get. We're hoping America will be able to arm our manpower."
Miss Lee, educated in England, took her first aeronautical training in Geneva, Switzerland, and then completed her work at Boeing school of Aeronautics in California.

Returning to China in 1936, she flew across the country, promoting aviation. Last year she flew her own plane across this country, enlisting relief for China.
United China Relief, under whose auspices she will speak 6:15 p.m. tonight at Hennepin Avenue Methodist church, is TRYING TO SECURE, NOT MERELY AID FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE WAR, BUT MONEY TO EDUCATE THE PEOPLE AND RE-BUILD INDUSTRIALLY, she said.
Mrs. John S. Pillsbury, state chairman for United China Relief, will preside at the meeting.

'Y' CLUBS WILL MEET AT CAMP
Members of 42 young men's clubs sponsored by Minneapolis YMCA will meet Saturday and Sunday for their annual young men's conference at Camp Ihduhapi, Lake Independence.

Professor Asher Christensen of the University of Minnesota will speak Saturday night on, "Our Responsibility as World Citizens."
Two open forum discussions are scheduled for Sunday-one for the future of young men's clubs and the other on the peace to follow the war.
