VERGENNES
Chinese Aviatrix To Speak Here Friday Evening
Miss Lee Ya Ching, China's first woman aviatrix, will speak for the United China Relief Rally at the High school on Friday evening at 8. Lee Ya Ching is the only Chinese woman member of the famous "Caterpillar Club", an organization of pilots whose lives have been saved by parachutes. Miss Lee learned to fly in Geneva, Switzerland in 1933, and took her advanced flight training at the Boeing School in Oakland, Calif. From there she returned to China and served as a flying instructor at China's large flying school, the Shanghai Municipal Air School. Today, after many hours in the air, she is an expert air navigator with transport training. Miss Lee has appeared at numerous meetings for China and has spoken for her country many times since she returned to this country in 1938.
The Vergennes Rotary club met at the Stevens House Tuesday evening. A brief talk was given by Principal John C. Hylan on sugar rationing, following which the members held rehearsal for the minstrel show to be presented by the club, May 1, the proceeds of which will be used for the war chest.
A dance will be held at the Panton town hall April 24 for the navy relief fund. Clark's orchestra will play for dancing.
