Of the foreigners I saw in Chungking, Sir Archibald Clark-Kerr, the British Ambassador, was easily the most outstanding. His general sympathy and understanding, his wide knowledge and eagerness to learn more have given him a unique position in China's capital. He keeps in touch with all elements of Chinese life. He works inordinately hard. Even during the days when Britain was toying with appeasement with Japan, he kept up his friendship with the Chinese. Sir Archibald is, indeed, one of China's truest friends.
