Establishment and equipment of a modern vaccine-producing plant, capable of supplying all the vaccine-needs of the Chinese Red Cross, as long as the war lasts, and of the civilian population after the war, is one of America's recent gift to China.

China's need for additional personnel to be trained for medical work, and her continued need for medical supplies and equipment make it imperative for American friends of China to continue their financial aid.

In their turn, the Chinese industrial cooperatives are meeting the growing scarcity of capital goods in China by producing essential civilian and military supplies. There are now more than 2,000 cooperatives in operation, giving self-help jobs to [[strikethrough]] more than 100,000 [[/strikethrough]] many refugee workmen.

Thanks partially to American generosity, Mme. Chiang Kai-shek has been able to rescue [[strikethrough]] 30,000 [[/strikethrough]] many hungry, ragged little [[strikethrough]] waifs [[/strikethrough]] children, part of China's fifty million refugee [[strikethrough]] hordes [[/strikethrough]] and has given them a sanctuary in orphanages run under her personal supervision. China's child refugees are thought to total two million and of this number 300,000 have been registered as war orphans. Rescue of more of these victims of war will depend upon additional financial assistance.

American aid to China's Christian colleges and universities, now in exile in the western provinces, has enabled more than 8,000 university students to continue their education despite the heavy handicaps of the war period. Almost daily bombardment has become, ironically, a minor cause of suffering, the greatest now faced by both students and teachers, being the alarming lack of physical resistance due to the high cost of living, and the inability of students to buy sufficient food. [[strikethrough]] Many teachers in Chinese colleges are receiving the equivalent of only $10 per month. [[/strikethrough]]
These are the things new China asks for - medical supplies, that men may have Book, that men may gain understanding & out stretched hand of a friendship that men may have hope & faith to carry on.
