realize that I was doing the wrong thing until I saw below me the deep blue ocean. Now, while I could [[strikethrough]] possib [[/strikethrough]] perhaps swim in air, [[strikethrough]] but [[/strikethrough]] one I was certain -- I could not swim in water. Before I [[strikethrough]] cou [[/strikethrough]] was able to figure out what to do about it, I dropped into the ocean. [[strikethrough]] and bounced up. [[/strikethrough]] In my excitement I was able to tell my self that the safe thing to do was first to [[strikethrough]] cut [[/strikethrough]] free myself from the chute and then [[strikethrough]] relaxe [[/strikethrough]] just relax in the water lying down, for some how I recalled [[strikethrough]] that [[/strikethrough]] what those swimmers told me that the easiest way to keep afloat is to [[strikethrough]] ly [[/strikethrough]] lie down on the water relaxed. I only kept afloat long enough to impress my instructor that I could swim. Soon, not only did I find out that [[strikethrough]] ti [[/strikethrough]] it wasn't easy but that I was beginning to drink mouthfulls of [[strikethrough]] wat [[/strikethrough]] ocean water. [[strikethrough]] Now to think of [[/strikethrough]] Now that I think of it, I probably took in [[strikethrough]] salt enough [[/strikethrough]] enough salt to last me a life time. Coming back to my story, my instructor meanwhile had notified the naval aviation unit near-by to send an amphibian plane to the scene of accident to pick me up. In their excitement to rescue me, the [[strikethrough]] amphibian plane forgot [[/strikethrough]] mechanics forgot to unlock the landing gear and subsequently the [[strikethrough]] pilot [[/strikethrough]] plane could not land on water. So what could I do but keep on drinking the ocean water until the plane came back the second time to get me. It was my first initiation into the [[strikethrough]] filed [[/strikethrough]] field of aviation.

When Japan invaded China again in 1937, I felt that if there is anything which I can do, I can do it faster than many others. [[strikethrough]] I can [[/strikethrough]] For one thing, I can [[strikethrough]] along [[/strikethrough]] around quicker [[strikethrough]] tha [[/strikethrough]] with my plane than other [[strikethrough]] menas [[/strikethrough]] means of transportation.
