Wilmington N.C January 24th 1867. Capt Curren Bureau Supt at Smithfield Capt. Mr L. E. Bernis, goes to Smithfield to arrange for opening a school for Freedmen. He is commissioned by the Am Missionary Association and goes to T. under the [[strikethrough]] auspices [[/strikethrough]] direction of Mr F. A. Fiske, State Supt and at Mr Fiskes request I take the liberty to introduce Mr Benies to you and solicit your cooperation in opening a permanent school in S. Yours Very truly S.S.
