I have the honor to state the following facts and respectfully ask your direction in the cases below mentioned. Viz — 
There are two unpaid judgments on my list of "cases tried" one against W. W. Nichols in favor of a Henry Barkers (freedman) for $10.00 one against William Thompson in favor of Benj Hodge (freedman) $21.00 — $12.00 paid leaving bal of $9.00 due. These debtors promised faithfully to pay the am't of these Judgements rendered against them if I would allow them time — from 28th June to 1st August in case of Thompson, & from June 26th to 24th Aug. in case of Nichols. Careful not to oppress the whites for sake of the freedpeople, I granted their requests, and they have long since resolved not to pay these debts due the
