Camp Nelson, March 8th 1866

Dear Sir,
Referring to our conversation at Washington in regards to my being attached to the Freedman's Bureau, permit me to say that in a conversation afterwards with Gen. Howard he said that he would cordially endorse my appointment and that it would only be necessary for you to apply to Gen. Palmer for an order detailing me.

This Post is now about broken up and as my Lieut. Col. is here and but six companies I think I can be easily spared, more especially as the work to be performed is exceedingly light.

Will you please inform me if the Bureau is employing clerks, and if so what the possible chance would be for my brother-in-law, a young man of ability and energy, to secure a position at least for the present. He is now out of employment and most anxious to go to work.
