Dear Mr. Bartels, I was very glad to receive your letter of Feb. 9, 1940. You see the last time I wrote I asked you to send me a statement of my unpaid balance, as I had been sending your company money & never had received a receipt for any of the payments I had made. As your company failed to either send me a statement or or a receipt, I stopped all payments purely in self defense. Now of course I would be glad to resume payments just as soon as I start receiving some money. As you know my work is flying, & at this time of year, a pilot's pay isn't enough to keep himself. Now I must ask you to be indulgent till [[strikethrough]] next [[/strikethrough]] spring when I will be earning some money again, & [[strikethrough]] so will [[/strikethrough]] can clear up this matter promptly.
