BY WHOM APPOINTED AND TERM OF SERVICE

Commissioned officers of the Naval Reserve are appointed to serve during the pleasure of the President of the United States. They are assigned to the classifications for which they may be found qualified. Warrant officers, aviation cadets, and Merchant Marine cadets are appointed to serve during the pleasure of the Secretary of the Navy.

The Naval Reserve is a component part of the United States Navy and consists of:
The Fleet Reserve.
The Organized Reserve.
The Volunteer Reserve.
The Merchant Marine Reserve.
