PAY AND ALLOWANCES

The pay of aviation cadets while on active duty undergoing training at Pensacola is at the rate of $75 per month, plus a money allowance for subsistence of $1 per day. While on active duty as pilots, after completion of training at Pensacola, they receive the full pay and allowances of their ranks as commissioned officers, including extra pay for flying risk.

While undergoing training at Pensacola, aviation cadets are issued Government life insurance in the amount of $10,000, the premium on which are paid by the Government. Upon acceptance of appointments as ensigns in the Naval Reserve, they are required to continue to carry such life insurance, but the premiums must be paid by the individual. Upon release from active duty at any time as aviation cadets or officers, they may, at their option, continue such policies at the government rate paying the premiums from their own funds.

Upon release from a period of active duty which has been continuous for 4 years or more, including period of training duty at Pensacola, they will be paid a cash lump sum of $500, which sum is in addition to any pay and allowances they may otherwise be entitled to receive.

UNIFORMS

While serving on active duty undergoing training, aviation cadets are furnished with necessary items of uniform equipment, in accordance with allowance list prescribed by the Bureau of Navigation. Upon first assignment to active duty as commissioned officers after completion of flight training at Pensacola, they are paid in addition a uniform allowance of $150.

PART IV. NAVAL RESERVE NURSE CORPS

The Naval Reserve Nurse Corps is composed of graduate registered unmarried female nurses, who are citizens of the United States or of the insular possessions thereof, and who by accepting appointment in the Naval Reserve obligate themselves to serve in the Navy in time of war or when in the opinion of the President a national emergency exists and, if required to do so, throughout the war or until the national emergency ceases to exist. Nurses appointed in the Naval Reserve are appointed to serve during the pleasure of the Secretary of the Navy.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT

(1) For appointment as a Naval Reserve nurse, the applicant must be a female citizen of the United States or of the insular possessions of the United States, of good character, and between 22 and 45 years of age. She must be unmarried, widowed, or legally separated if married and not widowed. She must be a graduate of an accredited high school and an accredited school of nursing having a daily average of not less than 50 patients, and shall be a registered nurse. In this connection, the following papers and certificates will be required:

(a) Satisfactory evidence of citizenship.
(b) Certificate of graduation from an accredited high school.
(c) Certificate of graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
(d) Certificate of registration as a graduate nurse.
(e) Letters of recommendation from three or more reputable persons 
    testifying from personal knowledge as to the good habits and moral 
    character of the applicant.
(f) If the applicant has special education or professional training, 
    such as anesthetist, dietitian, etc., certificates to this effect 
    signed by proper authorities.
(g) Recent photograph of candidates, profile, and full face, in 
    uniform.

(2) The physical requirements are the same as prescribed in the Manual for the Medical Department for nurses of the Regular Navy.

PART V. PROCUREMENT OF ENLISTED PERSONNEL

Enlisted men of the Naval Reserve are classed as follows:

FLEET RESERVE

F-2. Enlisted men who are transferred direct from the Navy to the Naval 
Reserve after 4 or more years' naval service and those who after 
an equal amount of such naval service have been honorably discharged and are enlisted in the Naval Reserve and assigned to this class1.

F-3-c. Enlisted men who previous to July 1, 1925, were transferred from the Regular Navy to the Naval Reserve Force after 16 years' naval service and on July 1, 1925, were further transferred from the Naval Reserve Force to the Naval Reserve.

F-3-d. Enlisted men who previous to July 1, 1925 were transferred from the Regular Navy to the Naval Reserve Force after 20 years' naval service, and on July 1, 1925, were further transferred from the Naval Reserve Force to the Naval Reserve.

F-4-c. Those enlisted men who served in the Regular Navy prior to July 1, 1925, who were either in the Navy or Naval Reserve Force on that date and thereafter transferred to the Naval Reserve after 16 years' naval service.
