ADVANCED AND ACROBATIC MANEUVERS

The "advanced maneuvers" should be perfected by every pilot. They are invaluable for perfecting the technique, orientation, coordination, speed sense, and self-confidence of anyone who conscientiously practices them, whether he be a student, a novice, or an experienced pilot. They will develop an ease, a control use analysis, a speed sense, and a delicate "feel" that is practically impossible to attain by any other means.

Furthermore, they are maneuvers that combine the practice of every fundamental of flight, and in perfecting them a high degree of skill is developed that will stand out in the execution of any ordinary maneuver within the limits of the aircraft's performance. If the student cares to go on and perfect himself in acrobatics, these advanced maneuvers serve as excellent preliminaries and will insure the perfection of all acrobatic maneuvers with a minimum of instruction and practice.

The true acrobatic maneuvers are not absolutely necessary to the training of a pilot for ordinary safe flying, and their inclusion in this treatise is not to be considered as urging their practice by all classes of pilots. However, much that is very valuable can and will be learned about flying by any pilot during the perfecting of his technique in them and a much higher degree of competence will result. They are mainly useful to those pilots and students who have ambitions to become instructors, exhibition pilots, military pilots, or pilots of some other highly professional type. For these reasons they are discussed here.

There are many more acrobatic maneuvers, particularly of the inverted type, that will not be discussed because they have little value in the training of pilots except for specialized exhibition work.
