Re Your letter on my Departure from Town without Leaving a Contact Point

For your information, I left for London, England, on the afternoon of January 6, 1948. On that day, before my departure, I was in your office to advise you of my pending trip. As you were not in, I discussed my plans with the head of the Schedule Department and advised him of the date of my probable return.

As I know you would not care to waste the company's money by putting through a trans-Atlantic telephone call, or sending a messenger to advise me of any information that could not await my return, I did not take the precaution of leaving a contact point in London with your office.

However, should the company have wished to contact me or advise me of any pressing business, my wife at home could very easily have forwarded any and all information.

I don't see how I violated any company rules as prescribed in the manual, as any attempt to contact me would have very easily been consummated.
