CAA NAVIGATORS EXAMINATION

Location Roosevelt Field, Mineola, L.I. Hangar E

Material necessary to take examination
CAA second class physidal examination
Plotter, dividers, computer, Useful Tables (HO 9)

Hours Monday to Friday from 0800 to 1700. Examination takes approximately 12 hours to work. 

EXAMINATION is divided into three books
Book 1: A- Civil Air Regulations
        B- Theory of Navigation
        C- Meteorology
Book 2: Sailings
        Star Identification
        Computer problems
        Radius of action fixed and alternate equi-time point. 
Book 3: 3 star fixes
        Running down a LOP
        Sailings
        Square search
        Todds method of LAN

SAMPLE EXAMINATIONS
CIVIL AIR REGULATIONS
1. Age of weather reports for overseas dispatch and domestic dispatching. 
2. Off airways altitudes-over land (US) and over water. 
3. Highest domestic altitudes east and west of 100 west.
4. How many hours can a pilot fly in 24? in 30 days? 90 days? Same for navigator?
5. If all AHF receivers went out off Bermuda when on a flight from Azores to Washington is a pilot required to land at Bermuda?
6. Are overseas altitudes controlled on true heading? compass heading? Magnetic heading? track?
7. Who is responsible for giving essential traffic when a flight is being dispatched for an overseas instrument flight? dispatcher? Navigator? Pilot? ATC?
8. In overseas operation, when is 2992 altitude used and when is altitude to proper setting used? 
9. Who has authority to issue Air Carrier Certificate? Board? Administrator? Local CAA?
10. When a licensed navigator is required he should be: Full time navigator? Pilot with certificate? anyone with certificate? Not required to present?
11. What is the expiration period of a navigators license?
12. What is the expiration period of a second class physical?
13. What are the regulations regarding gasoline reserve on overseas flights and domestic flights"

THEORY OF NAVIGATION
1. A constellation is described to bear so and so at such and such time. The altitude is so and so, then pick a series of three stars bearing in a certain direction. 
2. Off course problem, then compute the percentage effect on arrival time between an on course ship and off course ship.
