Section 3043 Cruise

A. POWER SETTING

1. When cruising altitude is attained set engines to cruise power.

GR-1820G-102

2. Reduce engine speed to 1800 RPM for cruising.

3. Set maniform pressure for 550 cruise H.P. at 1800 RPM using GR-1820G-102 power calculator to obtain correct boost setting.

4. After approximately 5 minutes or when cylinder head temperatures have fallen to 350oF. Adjust the mixtures to minimum F/A of .076. If head temperatures run higher than normal in hot weather, the mixtures should be richened about plus .002 F/A from the above. Do not extend the mixture control lever beyond the stop near the Idle Cut-Off position (last ten degrees on lean side of mixture quadrant) unless it becomes necessary to do so to keep the engine from running too rich to develop desired power. The Idle Cut-Off valve opens so suddenly that proper adjustment of the mixture beyond the stop is seldom possible, and usually results in erratic distribution of the mixture to the various cylinders. Often detonation results in some cylinders, causing the Cambridge Analyzer to indicate richening of the mixture when it is actually too lean.

5. Do not use carburetor heat unless icing is expected. Carburetor icing should be expected in an overcast at outside air temperatures between 320F. and 60oF.

6. If icing is anticipated apply 40oF. carburetor heat. If severe snow or rain is encountered use full carburetor heat.

Be sure manifold pressure is adjusted to conform to corrections on the "Power Chart."

R-1830-92

2. Maintain engine speed at 2050 RPM for cruising.

3. Set manifold pressure for 575 cruise H.P. at 2050 RPM using auto-lean side of S1C3-G power calculator to obtain correct boost setting.

4. After approximately 5 minutes or when cylinder head temperatures have fallen to 400oF. (204oC.) or below set mixture controls in the "Cruise" position and close cowl flaps or adjust as required to maintain cruise value of cylinder head temperatures at 450oF. (232oC.) maximum.

6. If icing is anticipated apply 90oF. carburetor heat. (Max.)
