17. The Flight Control Office shall notify the Vice-President, all Company Stations and the Civil Aeronautics Authority Scheduled Radiophone Class B Stations (see paragraph 13) when the emergency is over.

18. A complete report, giving all pertinent details, shall be made to the Vice President by the Flight Control Office in charge during the emergency. This report shall include statements from the Captain and First Officer of the flight and the Dispatcher in charge during the emergency.

19. Emergency calls on the part of either airplanes or ground stations shall be accepted and handled expeditiously . Captains and ground station operators will used the word "PAN" preceding the station call as an urgent signal whenever they wish to transmit information which is extremely urgent and requires priority of regular traffic. The urgent signal shall be transmitted only when necessary and an accurate record of the circumstances must be entered in the Captain's report and the Station Radio Log. (see COMMUNICATIONS, Section 5001.)

20. The word "MAYDAY" preceding a general call to all Stations shall be used as a distress signal by radiotelephone, indicating that the Station sending it is threatened by grave and imminent danger and requests immediate assistance. This call has absolute priority over all other transmissions. All aircraft or ground stations hearing this call must immediately cease all transmissions capable of interfering with the distress calls or messages and must listen on the frequency used for the distress call. This call must not be addressed to any particular Station. (See COMMUNICATIONS, Section 5001).

21. The distress (MAYDAY) message shall include the distress call followed by flight number of the airplane and information concerning its position, the nature of the distress, and kind of assistance desired. This call shall be transmitted only when absolutely necessary and an accurate record of the circumstances must be entered in the Captain's report and Station Radio Log for transmittal to the Federal Communications Commission.
