If the airplane has sufficient altitude to proceed to the airport on one engine with the landing gear extended, extend the gear as soon as possible. This will assure having landing gear for landing and may prevent tire from catching on fire and burning. Also hydraulic lines which go to operating mechanism of landing may burn through during very hot fires.
Varying fire conditions may warrant a procedure different than outlined above. The pilot must use his judgement as to the best procedure to use under each particular condition.
