entries on this and the following point which involve dues prorating, nothing will
be lost. All dates should be abbreviated to numbers with January 1, February 2
to December 12. This space will be left blank if the Member was never a First Pilot.

(2) Dates of becoming an Inactive Member and resuming active status. (Item 6).

The Financial Record card shows the dates on which dues were suspended
because of a Member's changing from active to inactive status, and change from
inactive to active will show upon resumption of dues assessments.

Wherever possible there should be a distinction between periods of inactivity as a Member because of military service and other periods of inactive membersgip. Therefore, if a person who is an inactive member because of having become an executive should enter military service and then should later on be returned to
his executive job, two periods of inactivity should be given separate dates. This
is illustrated on one of the cards.

The reasons for changing from active to inactive membership may be coded as
follows:

Executive job for air carrier - 1
Other non-flying air carrier job - 2
Job outside air carrier industry - 3
Military service - 4
Disability - 5
Other reason - 6

Disability will probably not show as a reason for becoming inactive in the
Financial Record. Enter the reason as shown by the Financial Record in pencil and
change if the Personnel Folder indicates another reason.

In some cases, in order to get the reason for the Member's changing to inactive status, the Journal entry may need to be consulted. In most cases of active Members, the Journal will be needed to fix the ending date of military service because of the six months of free dues. If the only reason to consult the Journal is to ascertain an exact date, and such date can be fixed within two weeks without reference to the Journal, it will be unnecessary to take the time to look up the Journal, fix the best date indicated by the Financial Record card, and let it go
at that.
(3) The date of Leaving A.L.P.A. (Part of Item 7).

Show the date of and reason for ceasing to be a Member of A.L.P.A, for
every ex-Member. A Member may have cessed to be a member of A.L.P.A. and then have
rejoined; the form has spaces for more than one entry. Enter a reason for each
leaving of A.L.P.A. These reasons may be classified in groups, with the indicated
coding. Enter the code number rather than writing out the reason even in abbreviated
form:
Resigned - 1
Expelled for non-payment of dues - 2
Disabled - 3
Death from civil aviation accident - 4
Death while in the armed forces - 5
Deaths other than (4) and (5) - 6
Unknown - 7
