The piolet attains age 65 on July 1, 1974. At that time he becomes entitled to receive a total of $37.31 under the Social Security Act. Of this, $28.75 is the "air line share" and is subtracted from the Pilots' annuity. Therefore for July, 1974 and for as long as the pilot lives he will receive:

The pilot dies on December 20, 1975. The wife then being over 60, she will be entitled immediately to a widow's insurance annuity under the Pilots' System; but since she is not yet 65 and has no children under 18, she is not entitled to any benefit under social security. The average monthly remuneration for survivor purposes will be based on elapsed time of 228 months.- the pilot was over 27 on January 1, 1948 and therefore elapsed time begins to run under the Pilots' System with the first quarter of 1948. He retires on January 1, 1967 so elapsed time stops as of the fourthquarter of 1966. The elapsed time is 19 years of 228 month. Average monthly remuneration is 110,000 divided by 228, or $482.46. The insurance amount is $15 plus 10 per cent of $482.46 or $63.25 increased by 15 per cent, or a total of $72.74. The widow's annuity under the Pilots' System is three quarters of the insurance amount of $54.56.
