Mr. David L. Behncke, President
Air Line Pilots Association
Chicago, Illinois

Dear Mr. Behncke:

At our recent mediation in New York, some information relating to disabilities and illnesses among PAA pilots came to our attention, and meager though it may be, you may be able to inquire of appropriate Council Chairmen for further details. My thought is that the information may be of value in completing the surveys for our proposed Retirement Plan.

Copilot Clifford Bryant, Fresno, California, is now on a 3 year medical leave due to "blood sugar". He has about 5 years seniority with PAA. His last active piloting was in our Latin American Division, Miami, about January, 1947.

Copilot Pankow, Latin American Div. based in New York, suffered a broken back aboard a PAA aircraft while on duty. His present status is unknown.

Copilot McLaughlin, LAD Houston based, broke his back as a result of a fall from a ladder while on duty in Caracas, Venezuela. Present condition unknown.

Master pilot H. G. Evans suffers recurrent attacks of "salmonilla" presumably related to para-typhoid and found in chickens. This disease is not uncommon in LAD areas. Evans has suffered no loss of time to my knowledge.

Former Master pilot Lee Williams is presumably totally disabled due to brain hemorrhage about August, 1947. Williams lives at San Mateo, California.

Probably you have all this information and more. If not, I would appreciate your holding confidential the source of this information in view of the delicate and sometimes involved legal complications resulting from pilot disabilities. The information may be of interest to Dr. Fenwick.
