TO ALL ALPA CHAIRMEN AND OFFICERS

Dear Member:

This is to inform you that the balloting of the retirement plan was concluded on May 15 and the Election Certification Committee tallied and certified the results of the voting on May 19, 1949. A copy of their certification is attached.

A brief summation of this is as follows:

2901 votes cast
1113 votes FOR - 38.56 % of votes cast, 40.20 % of valid votes cast
1656 votes AGAINST
132 votes VOIDED

The reason for there being voided votes is that these members (132 of those voting) were not in good standing during the time of the balloting. All such bad standing members were notified and invited to bring themselves in good standing and have their ballot recorded. Many did, but 132 didn't.

So that everyone will have this situation clearly in mind, I quote first the action of the 10th Convention directing that the vote be taken; second, the part of the By-Laws about members not in good standing being denied all the privileges of participating in ALPA business.

"..........BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT a ballot be sent to each member with the educational literature and such ballot be returned not later than April 15, 1949; and

"BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT a three-quarter (3/4) majority of the ballots cast be necessary to authorize the introduction of the Bill to Congress........."

(NOTE) The changing of the deadline from April 15 to May 15 was explained in the letter to all members, dated March 28 which accompanied the Retirement Plan ballot.
