Mr. Michael A. Gitt
148-25 Bayside Avenue
Flushing L.I., N.Y.

Dear Mr. Gitt:

I am sorry I didn't get to send you the wire I promised I would in my letter of August 23 to be read at the testimonial dinner in honor of Fred Smith expressing my regrets at not being able to attend. Things have really been in a high pressure routine here at Headquarters, and as soon as I had finished writing the aforementioned letter, I told my secretary to remind me to send a wire. The next thing I knew, she had laid the following memorandum on my desk:

"I regret very much that I overlooked the note I made reminding me that you wanted to send a wire to Mike Gitt expressing your regret at not being able to attend the testimonial dinner last evening in honor of Fred Smith. Needless to say, I am sorry this happened, and I hope it doesn't put you in too much of a spot."

She is a substitute secretary, so I guess we'll just have to mark it down to inexperience.

I am sorry that I wasn't there and I am sorry I failed to send you the wire. I talked to Bart Cox and he said that you had a good meeting and everything was in the groove. What do you think about the Directors ballot on the pension question? The votes are really coming in quite satisfactorily.

Sincerely yours,

AIR LINE PILOTS ASSOCIATION
