NOTAM FILLI NEWARK, N.J. AIRPORT HIGH INTENSITY APPROACH LIGHT SYSTEM ON RUNWAY SIX has been placed in continuous operation for equipment shakedown and test. On or about November 17 the system will be formally commissioned. The system extends outward from runway end a total distance of 2800 feet. Two types of light units available and will normally be operated alternately with change-over after approximately eight hours service each type. System A: Incandescent red light has six brightness settings available on request pilot to tower. Code designation as follows: A2--Maximum brightness A3--Thirty percent max A4--Ten percent max A5--three percent max A6--One percent max A7--One third of one percent max System B: Gaseous tube lights has nine combination settings available on request pilot to tower. Code designation as follows: B1--One red neon tube per light, regular spacing B2--Three red neon tubes per light, regular spacing B3--White sequence flash light running through length of system B4--Four red neon tubes per light, regular spacing B5--Four red neon tubes extra close spacing outer end of system B6--Four red neon tubes, regular spacing and white sequence flash in combination B7--Four red neon tubes extra close spacing and white sequence flash in combination B8--one red neon tube, regular spacing and white sequence flash in combination B9--Three red neon tubes, regular spacing and white sequence flash in combination. Normal operation day and night when no specific setting requested by pilots, will be at lowest intensity for CAVU, progressively higher intensity settings dependent upon weather conditions.
