approve a dual pattern. The fact that our limits are 4000-2 they say, rules out our objection to interference caused by high terrain to east. Mr. Coe, the airport manager, is submitting local airport traffic rules for Rutland Airport to the CAA for final approval. Until the final decision comes through, all Colonial Airlines pilots will make left hand turns. All approaches to runways, a turn of at least 180° will have to be made. In other words, straight-in approaches are not approved. We are awaiting favorable action on our proposal to signal southbound take-offs by flag, owing to the blind spot at each end of the short runway. We also have requested strongly that the beacon be turned on when airline ships are in the vicinity. In closing, please remember that we do not make the local airport traffic rules. They are made after all parties have been heard from and finally approved by the CAA. It is also well to remember that the local airport manager is charged with enforcing these rules and reporting all violations to the CAA. When the final rules have been approved, we will advise you. In the meanwhile, please be guided by the above.

Rumors have been received at this office to the effect that some of our pilots have been flying and taxiing in a manner which causes passengers concern, so much so that they have related their fears to our agents. This is one kind of a rumor we should all endeavor to stop for it isn't good for business to have our customers complaining especially in these days. Let's say, "The customer is always right", and see if we cannot cut down on this kind of complaint. Thanks.

A short while ago you were requested to make reports regarding the Hughes Terrain Indicator. The writers neglected to tell you that we do not expect these reports to be made out in the air, as it is our desire to cut down on paper work at every opportunity. However, at the completion of your flight we would appreciate comments from you on the usefulness of this device on NC86592 for that purpose. All pilots should contact Miss Owen and ask her to let you read ATA Memorandum No. 202. This is a very interesting and important report on errors in altitudes in the vicinity of mountaintops.

Mr. Dykes has called the writer's attention to the matter of keeping down paper work in the cockpit. We are sure no one will disagree with this. Therefore, we are having a clip board stationed on the Flight Plan Counter at all times, with a supply of mimeographed paper. This report, for the want of a better name, we have called "Flight Crews Discrepancy Report". Please use it for all matters which you feel should be brought to our attention.
