becomes liable, the cheaper the insurance is. For example: a non-cancellable policy providing $100.00 per month cost the following in 1938: 

One week waiting period     $80.00

One month      "    "       60.00
Three months   "    "       40.00
Six months     "    "         ?

(Note: It is impossible to quote you present prices because they must come from the home office and this would take too much time, but the relationship between cost and a longer waiting period is obvious.

Therefore, to provide ourselves with a little more real security and not the false type we now have, it is imperative that every effort be made to provide for sick leave in our working agreement, and extend it to six months or a year if possible.

Why should a man be penalized because he has a near perfect attendance record at work? Sure it shouldn't cost the Company any more because isn't it human nature to for a person who has built up his maximum sick-leave credit to take a few days off rather than lose the additional credit? Also, has it not been United's policy to often extend sick leave beyond the normal 90 days? United Air Lines has been very lenient, but will they continue? [Start underline] We must have that guarantee [End underline] by having it in the contract. 

Remember death happens to a person only once, but long periods of disability due to accident or sickness can happen several times in one's life. Therefore, I urge you with utmost sincerity to make every effort to have a sick pay guarantee written in our contract.
