TO ALL ALPA CHAIRMEN & OFFICERS AND NATIONAL STRIKE CONTROL POINTS

Dear Member:

This afternoon we received a call from our Washington office and the following news release from the CAB, dated September 28, was transmitted to Headquarters over the phone:

"INVESTIGATION OF PROPOSED TRANSFER OF ROUTES OF NATIONAL AIRLINES

"The CAB today instituted an investigation to determine whether it is in the public interest: (1) for Pan American Airways to acquire the New York-Miami route for National; (2) for Delta to acquire the New Orleans-Jacksonville, and New Orleans-Miami route of National Airlines; (3) for Eastern Air Lines or Delta Air Lines to acquire the Miami-Havana, Cuba route of National or for an appropriate air carrier to acquire authorization to operate National's route between Jacksonville and Miami, Florida. The Board stated that it presently planned to hold the hearing in this investigation before the Board itself about December 1, 1948. Investigation is in furtherance of the Board's study of the air transportation system and is consistent with the recommendations made earlier this year by the President's Air Policy Commission and Congressional Air Policy Board."

Apparently things are happening in the National situation. Presently the best course to follow for all National Strike Control Points and all Chairmen and Officers of ALPA is to say nothing.

I am scheduled to be in Washington on Wednesday and Thursday of this week and will make a report to all Chairmen and Officers and National Strike Control Points upon my return relative to this latest action of National Airlines.

In the interim, I repeat, it would be best if our members did not speculating or opinionating on this subject.

Sincerely yours,

AIR LINE PILOTS ASSOCIATION
