AIRLINE PILOTS ASSOCIATION
July 27, 1948
Subject: ALPA Official Jewelry
To: All Local Councils

Dear Chairman:
I wish to remind you that a complete line of official ALPA rings and emblems are available to the membership. This jewelry is of the finest quality and craftsmanship with the rings made to individual order. The rings are of durable 10K gold and have been shaped on an oval mandrel for a better finger fit. This type of manufacture prevents the ring from twisting or turning on the finger; the stone always remains upright. In addition, the ring shanks have been thinned so as to eliminate bulkiness and to not bind the fingers in the handling of the cockpit controls.
The atone set is flanked with the insignia of the ALPA's regular member emblem and the very first U.S. Air Mail Wings. This is the first page air line history in that it exemplifies for air line flying the same thought as the Pony Express did for surface transportation. One side of the rings is inscribed with "Schedule with Safety" and the other side with "Courage, Unity and Fidelity." These are colorful and picturesque words -- the cornerstone on which the air line piloting profession is built.
This official ring is more than a beautiful and serviceable article of jewelry. It is your emblem of membership in one of the most rigorous and highly respected professions -- that of the air line pilot. The ALPA ring is available with your choice of eight stone sets ranging in price from $27.72 to $36.12. They are: black onyx, ruby, spinelle, amethyst, synthetic garnet, genuine garnet, tourmaline, and blue sapphire. As these rings are made to individual order, please inform your Council that approximately 45 days should be allowed for manufacture.
The official ALPA emblem is available in three types of emblems. They are the Charter Member, Regular Member, and Apprentice Member. The Charter Member emblem is for all ALPA members, active or inactive, with a membership No. of 530 or less. The Regular Member emblem is available for all regular active and inactive members and, of course, the Apprentice Member emblem is for apprentice members only. These three emblems are available on special order in two qualities. The 1/10 10K gold filled is $2.40 and the 10K gold is $5.03. These emblems are die struck with special emphasis given to making the "ALPA" clean cut and legible. The lapel emblem is a distinctive insignia and each member should wear his proper emblem.
Headquarters has been able to contact a Rhode Island jewelry firm that would manufacture an ALPA Regular Member emblem that sells for 50ยข. These are now in stock and your order can be filled immediately. These
