Subject: Report on Reduction of Minimums at La Guardia

To : All Local Councils

Dear Chairman:

Attached are copies of two letters concerning a reduction of minimums at LaGuardia Field. The Civil Aeronautics Administration asked for our opinion concerning the possibility of reducing minimums on ILS to a further extent with the present landing aids at LaGuardia Field. The CAA realized that no further reduction in minimums was possible without the approval of the air line pilots. they requested an expression of feeling in this respect from your Air Line Pilots Associated and this was obtained by polling all the pilots who normally use LaGuardia Airport in their regular operations.

Definite results were obtained from this questionnaire that indicated the pilots were not in favor of further decreasing of minimums under the present navigational facilities at LaGuardia Airport and that information was transmitted to CAA as shown in the accompanying letter. The other attached latter shows that our opinion was given much weight and further reduction of minimums at LaGuardia Airport were disapproved on the grounds of our objections.

The above information is being made available to you in order to show the results of cooperation with the CAA in matters of this kind. This incident should encourage us to give full consideration to all questionnaires sent to the membership on various subjects so that when we report our findings to the CAA we will obtain the action desired by the majority of pilots.

Sincerely yours,

AIR LINE PILOTS ASSOCIATION
