SUMMARY OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT IN ICAO

(This summary is for convenient reference and is not an official statement of the employment terms, which are contained in detail in the ICAO Service Code. The conditions listed are applicable to employees in the First Division (internationally recruited).)

Duration of Appointment

The initial appointment of internationally recruited personnel is normally for two years, which includes a probationary period of six months. Further appointment at the end of the initial term of service may be offered for a period not exceeding three years, or without time limit.

Location

Except as otherwise specified, positions are in headquarters offices in Montreal, Canada. An employee may be transferred to another office, with due regard to his personal interest. Normally, transfers would involve only employees in the regional organization. ICAO offices are at present located in Cairo, Paris, Lima and Melbourne.

Salary Differentials to reflect geographical differences in costs of living

The salary scales indicated are for Montreal and are subject to the application of differentials, either upward or downward, when applied to positions in the ICAO offices.

Tax Status

The salaries listed are gross salaries and are subject to a system of deductions in lieu of income tax by the Organization.

Condition of Resignation

Three months' notice of resignation is normally required.

Leave Provisions

Annual leave accrues at the rate of two working days for each completed month of service. Additional leave varying from five to fifteen days is authorized once in every three years in connection with visits home to distant countries. Travelling expenses on home leave are paid. There is provision for paid sick leave.

Provident Fund

There is no pension fund in operation. Pending the adoption of a pension plan, there is a staff provident fund to which employees contribute 7 1/2% by deductions from salary. A like amount is contributed by the Organization. The employee's contribution to the provident fund may be withdrawn upon leaving the service. Under certain conditions, the Organization's contribution may also be withdrawn. If and when a pension plan is adopted, contributions to the Provident Fund may be transferred to the Pension Fund.
