SUBJECT: TAIL BALLAST 

The following weights of ballast are to be used on all ferry and test flights of DC-3 type aircraft where there is no stewardess and no commissary equipment is being carried. These weights are to be standard and are not to be changed by flight crews. The flight dispatcher shall inform the Maintenance Department of the amount of ballast to be carried on any such flight when setting it up and the usual notation should be made on the clearance form.

DC-3As (P & W R-1830) - 900 lbs.
DC-3 (Wright G-102) - 500 lbs.
