Cruising RPMs

Because of engine roughness and vibration at 1900 RPMs. maintenance and two of our pilots on the Bermuda Division have suggested that the cruising RPM be increased to 2050 at 600 h.p. Available data shows that this will porduce a fuel flow of approximately 300 lbs. per hour per engine. Since this engine is essentially the same as our R-1830s, which are installed on our DC-3s, which are normally cruised at 2050, it is expected that this will be the answer to our vibration problem. This increased RPM will result in an increase in air speed as well as head temperatures. Your comments and observations in regard to this new power setting are requested. Should this power setting prove to be satisfactory after an adequate test period, the manual will amended accordingly.

Cockpit Seats

The seats in the DC-4 cockpit will be re-upholstered as soon as possible. In the meantime, the padded seat covers will be used. This is the same type cover which was placed on the Captain's seat in NC93266. The back of the seats are also being reclined slightly in order to make them more comfortable.
