Removal of Fuel Tanks

Because of the increased weight of new radio equipment which is being added to our DC-3 aircraft and the subsequent reduction in payload, it has been found necessary to remove the right auxiliary fuel tanks from our Wright powered aircraft.

Maintenance of Route Qualifications

All pilots flying routes 71, 71F, 72 and 72F are reminded that they are expected to maintain their route qualifications over the entire domestic system. The Civil Air Regulations require that a pilot must have flown over a route at least once in the preceding twelve calendar months in order to maintain his route qualifications. Since many of the New York based crews have not had the opportunity to fly between Washington and Syracuse since the establishment of a pilot base at Syracuse, it is entirely possible that their route qualification would expire, and should landing minimums at Syracuse fall below limits, they would have to proceed to the next scheduled landing and defer the flight until the qualified crew could be sent to continue the flight. Under the present schedule it is possible to go to Washington on Flight 500 and take 74 and 11 around New York. Non-revenue transportation will be issued for this purpose. However, not more than two persons should make this flight together. Pilots desiring to make this flight should submit their names to the schedule department and make a reservation. All New York based pilots should submit to the Chief Piot's office the date of their last flight between Syracuse and Washington, while Syracuse based crews should submit the date of their last flight from Syracuse to New York.

Proposed Revisions of Civil Air Regulations

Colonial Airlines has been requested to submit a complete proposal outlining the extent to which it is believed the responsibility should be transferred to the individual airlines in respect to a proposed revision of the Civil Air Regulations. Now is our opportunity to correct the many objectionable provisions of the Civil Air Regulations. All pilots are requested to submit to the Chief Pilot's office their recommendations for revisions, deletions and amendments to the CARs. It is requested that all such suggestions reach this office prior to December 27, 1948. Now is your chance!

Antice Service Tests

You have recently been issued Service Letter No. 154, which was accompanied by a report form. As soon as the Antice has been placed on the propellers, these report forms will be placed in the log book. You are requested to fill in the top of this form which requests information concerning rain encountered. Actually this should have read "precipitation encountered". Will you please indicate the type of precipitation and the degree as well as the duration. It is hoped that the use of this substance on our propeller blades will considerably reduce the effect of propeller
