Dear Dave:

I am enclosing a clipping from the Sunday Times of April 9, 1950.

I think Dr. Nathaniel Klietman's study of "General Mental Alertness" for greater efficiency has terrific possibilities as far as Air Line Pilots are concerned. What an argument for "Safety".

I would like to see him do a study of pilot fatigue similar to the one he did on submarine people. There is no doubt of what he would find. His findings could and should be invaluable in changing the rules for Flight Time Limitation particularly as it concerns "On Duty Time Limitation". We could also use this information as a lever to ease ourselves out of the apparent stalemate that we are now on "Mileage Limitations" in contract negotiations. In short, Dave, Dr. Nathaniel Klietman could be very useful to us in a number to bring "safety" into the picture of "Flight Time Limitation", On Duty Time Limitation, or Mileage Limitation, whatever you want to call it.

Maybe he could help us put the show back on the road. What do you think?

With best regards, I am,

Sincerely yours,

M. A. Gitt
