Mr. Michael A. Gitt

Flushing, N.Y.

Dear Mr. Gitt:

We have your letter of April 10, to which you attached a clipping from the Sunday Times of April 9, 1950 entitled, "Daily Schedules Aboard a Submarine."

The information contained in this article is very interesting and, undoubtedly, a certain parallel can be drawn between working conditions of the people in service on board submarines and the air line pilots. It is noted that Dr. Nathaniel Kleitman is a member of the staff of the University of Chicago and, therefore, he should be readily available to Headquarters. Of course, utilizing the services of such an individual would have to be done very carefully because there is always the possibility of a publication of a study of this type backfiring in case the individual making the study gets on the wrong track and comes forth with some wholly erroneous conclusions. However, we appreciate your forwarding this information to us and will keep Dr. Kleitman in mind, should it become necessary that we utilize information of the type he is capable of presenting. Such a study might be of great value in arbitrations proceeding, particularly.

With best regards, I am

Sincerely yours,

AIR LINE PILOTS ASSOCIATION.
