Dear Mr. Rohles:

Thank you for your letter of March 27th in answer to my letter of March 16th. Apparently my letter did not make the question clear about my status as Check Pilot in 1948 and 1949. The point I am raising is that I earned some $300 as a Check Pilot in addition to my regular line flying. What I specifically want to know is, do I have to pay dues on that $300.

With regard to my status as a Check Pilot, that was clarified at the 10th Convention by a resolution from that body. The 10th Convention also by a resolution, very clearly pointed out how Check Pilots shall pay dues. As I recall it, a Check Pilot shall pay dues for any time he takes away from any First Pilot, Reserve Pilot, or Copilot when that Check Pilot is flying a regularly scheduled run in any of these capacities. As I see it, he then is only liable for dues only for that portion of his flying for dues purposes wherein he deprives some Regular Pilot from work. In my particular case, I think I pointed out in my last letter my flying did not deprive any pilot from any work.

I hope this letter will give you a better picture of just what the question is that is bothering me.

With best regards, I am

Sincerely yours,

M. A. Gitt
