Flushing, New York

Dear Mike:

Receipt is hereby acknowledged of your letter of July 19, 1949, enclosing Decision of G. R. Janas relative to your grievance.

I do not agree with your statement that Janas, by his actions, can thereby in effect destroy the issue which is involved in your grievance. That issue involves, in simple terms, a contract violation, against which, you, as a party to the Pilots' Employment Agreement, have every right to grieve. As I stated to you before, I feel that your grievance is on sound grounds, and I know of no reason why you should not process it to its final conclusion before the System Board of Adjustment. However, if there are certain practical considerations involved, which would cause you to hesitate in pursuing your rights under the contract, that is another matter, and one which you alone can decide.

In any event, I am enclosing a letter of appeal addressed to Branch T. Dykes, which must be filed by you with the Company, if at all, on or before July 25, 1949.

Please advise me in the event you do file this letter of appeal with Mr. Dykes. In the event that you do, you may be assured of our continued cooperation in this matter.

Very truly yours,
