[[underline]]"Remarks" Portion of Weather Reports[[/underline]]. The meteorological situation described in the main body of the report (official U.S. Weather Bureau report) represents the general condition. The purpose of the "remarks" section is to particularize, when appropriate, any of the elements in the main body of the report. When the remarks indicate merely a range of variability, such as, "visibility variable 1/2 to 13/4 miles", the main body of the report controls.

On the other hand, if the principal portion of the weather report indicates that the visibility is 1/2 mile and the "remarks" section specifies that the visibility to the south is one mile, the visibility in the main body is modified and an aircraft approaching from the south may land if the visibility landing limit is one (1) mile.

The "remarks" portion may be used to modify the main body of the report only when applied to visibility (not ceiling) and then only when the remarks state a definite value in any one of several quadrants.

The ceiling value used must always be that contained in the main body of the report.
