Dear Mike:

This acknowledges your letter of October 2, received here on the 4th, which makes reference to the age sixty rule.

I have some misgivings about setting up a committee to handle such a problem without having first gone through the channels of the Local Councils and the MEC's of enough air lines to provide over-all support for such a program. I can fully recognize considerable resistance to such an activity by reason of the fact that a number of pilots apparently do not care to fly beyond age sixty and others have, in fact, retired a little early by their own volition and, of course the younger pilot is most interested in retirement at the top end of the list inasmuch as it affords him promotion opportunity.

The other problem is, we would of necessity be obliged to define a method of procedure that could be worked out by a committee having the ingredients of accomplishing the desired end results. I must confess that at this instant I have not been able to think out a method which would bring such an activity to the desired conclusion. If you have any ideas on same, I would appreciate your thoughts.

Best personal regards.

Sincerely yours,
