Mr. Charles Ruby
Air Line Pilots' Association
55th Street and Cicero Avenue
Chicago, Illinois

Dear Charlie:

Thank you for your very nice letter in response to my letter dealing with the over 60 age problem.

As you probably gather, I am (if I can maintain a first class Physical) interested in pursuing this question to a logical and equitable conclusion. I don't believe in arbitrary and unilateral decisions especially when they affect the rights of the individual. The "out at 60" decision by a former F.A.A. administrator certainly fits into that category. I don't think a determination based on chronological age is a true basis for evaluating an individual's fitness to perform his duty (especailly as a pilot.) This takes away a man's rights of free employment as guaranteed under law and by the Constitution.

Now that you know my feelings on this subject, I would like to enlist your aid and the aid of the Association in Planning this fight for our individual rights. I believe this kind of a fight is justified if for no other reason, than to insure our rights under the Constitution of the United States.

With my 60th birthday coming up (May 13, 1968) I don't think it is too early to start planning an action at this early date. I earnestly solicit your personal cooperation together with the Association backing.

gards, I am
With best reagr Sincerely,
