Dear Mr. Meals:

You will recall our recent discussion with members of the Air Line Pilots Association, relative to the Federal Aviation Agency's "age 60" rule for airline pilots.

You will please find enclosed a copy of a letter from The Honorable Alan S. Boyd, Secretary of the Department of Transportation, along with attachments. This, of course, will be self-explanatory and is for your use and noting.

After you have had an opportunity to read this material, I would like to hear from you further regarding the possibility of providing the FAA with sufficient medical and other evidence to justify them in initiating a selective system of the type used before the "age 60" rule was adopted. If you feel that this can be accomplished and that this material is available, I feel we can pursue this further with the Agency.
You know I will do all I possibly can to be of assistance to you and the members of your organization, and
Believe me,
Always sincerely,
Claude Pepper
